Twit Me!

Remember my on-off relationship with Twitter?

It's definitely on. Very on this time. In fact, it's so on, that I'm bloody addicted to telling the whole wide world as to what I'm currently doing, and quietly checking out what you are doing. I'm here, if you wanna follow me. Bear in mind, I'm very the boring.

Oh, and I can update from my *ahem ahem* iPod Touch (which I shall blog about soon) at anytime too. Tee hee. *cough* show off *cough*

Anyone else out there twit? Tweet?

I need more people to stalk lah.

One Of Those Days

I believe I'm not the only one who looked at the blogging platform page, clicked on Create New Post, and then stared at the screen because I just do not know what the heck to blog about. Or am I?

I'm having one of those days. It's not like I don't have anything to write, I just do not have the heart to do so. The same goes for my beauty and wedding blog. This is a classic example of what they call biting off more than you can chew. Sigh.

Okay, gotta shake this laziness off.

Think, Tine, think!

Don't reckon you'd be interested in knowing what I had for breakfast, lunch and dinner instead? :p

Why Do You Blog?

Blogging

Pablo Pabla
came up with a writing project where we are to answer three questions (as below) about blogging. I thought it was quite interesting (I love writing projects!), so here it goes.

1. Why do you blog?

I jumped onto the blogging bandwagon in May 2005 when I saw that everyone was doing it. Yep, herd mentality, and I sank right to it :p When I first started blogging, only a few friends and family knew about the blog. I didn't make it public until about a year later.

I was apprehensive about letting strangers read my life like an open book, but I never regretted that move, for I made so many new friends because of it. My cousins and I grew closer because of our blogs (previously it would be a sporadic email or two, and annual meetings during Chinese New Year). Keeping in touch with friends who live so far away also became easier.

I started the beauty blog, Beautyholics Anonymous, two years later, in May 2007. This was with the encouragement from fellow blogger, Paris, who was and still is my source of inspiration. The beauty blog feeds the vain side of me. The bit of pocket money I made from that blog helped too :p

2. What do you hope to achieve by blogging?

Golly, I've never really thought of what I'd hope to achieve from blogging. I love writing; well, a more accurate description would be to simply say what my heart and mind are feeling and thinking. I'd like to say that I've grown in the past couple of years when I first began. Emotionally, and in my style of writing.

I did not write to gain any sort of recognition, nor do I write to entertain. It's simply ME.

I'd love to be able to write better. There are so many brilliant bloggers out there who struck a chord in me with just their wit and words. That's what I'd love to do. I have a long way to go, of course, and I hope I'm heading in the right direction.

3. How much time do you spend a day doing blogging related work (as described above)?

Hmm ... it can take from 10 minutes to days, even weeks, before I come up with an entry. I'd draft an entry at work (shh! When I'm free, of course) on Notepad, add and amend to it intermittently during the day, before it's posted. I like to read it many times before it's published on the Internet. What can I say, I'm a perfectionist :p

More heartfelt entries normally take a few days to write. These are usually the more difficult ones to write compared to tags, updates, etc. Believe it or not, writing such posts have invoked tears and a whole lot of emotion to the words.

There ya go. I don't know when I'd stop (there will come a time when I will stop, as all good things will come to an end), but till then, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for better things to come :)

Twitter's Back

I've put my Twitter back on the blog. I don't why I did, 'cos I un-put it the last time.

Oh well. I hereby declare that it shall stay here until I don't know what to do about it anymore. Or till I cannot tahan its presence.

Twit! Twit!

Blog Theme (Somewhat) Updated

I've been so engrossed in tweaking the theme and layout of my beauty blog, that I've completely forgotten my first (blog) love. I realised that I haven't been changing my header picture on this site for quite some time now (I used to change it every three months), and that I haven't even updated my blogroll! My bad, folks.

Anyways, I've finally given this blog a new header; it's the same layout, as I always prefer a lot of white space (makes for easy reading) and lots of flowers. However, this time, I've changed the theme a little; I've added musical instruments as well. This also reflects another passion in my life - music. I actually have another blog in mind (oh no, not another one!) just on music, but we'll see how that goes, eh? Right now, I have more than enough to keep me very occupied :p

I've also updated my blogroll to add my regular blog-reads. There are actually a lot more blogs which I read daily (I've got a hundred feeds in my RSS reader), since I can't put ALL of them in, I'll just put my favourite local reads. For those who have linked me, thanks very much for your support :)

Stay tuned for more Oh for the love of me!

~Tine~

My Blogging Personality

Your Blogging Type Is Thoughtful and Considerate

You're a well liked, though underrated, blogger.
You have a heart of gold, and are likely to blog for a cause.
You're a peaceful blogger - no drama for you!
A good listener and friend, you tend to leave thoughtful comments for others.

Aww, now don't I just sound nauseatingly nice? *gag*

I need more drama, people! Fireworks! Heart-bopping experiences! Controversies!

So that I can blog about it :p

Be A Charitable Blogger

The weekend's almost over. Ugh. Doesn't even feel as though it began.

I'm still running a bit of a dry spell here, so do forgive the sporadic and non-substantial entries.

Anyways, just a short note for today, and a shoutout to those taking part in the Blogathon 2007. For those whom I know are doing the Blogathon (namely Kamigoroshi and Pelf), keep up the good work. It definitely ain't easy staying up 24 hours and churning posts every 30 minutes. Two big thumbs up for you two. And for the rest who are doing the Blogathon too, I'm real proud of ya. I'm sorry I couldn't pledge much; still, I hope it helps.

People, do sponsor these bloggers on their mission.

The money does not go into their pockets, but to their charitable organisation which they're doing this for. If you can do the countless memes, you can pledge. A little goes a long way. Let's do our part for the community, eh? (at the very least, one less gripe our gah-men will have against us "bloggers")

PS: On a sidenote, I'm totally hooked on Facebook. Help!

Fancy A Contact Form For Blogger/Blogspot?

Here's a little blogging tip for those who are on the Blogger/Blogspot platform.

Fancy a contact form for your blog? With my poor HTML/CSS skills, all I could do before today was to put my email address on my blog for people to contact me. Still, not very impressive eh?

I Googled for help yesterday, and voila! I finally found a method to create a contact form for my blog (check out the sidebar). Psyched!! :p

You can check it out on Blogosquare. The tutorial's quite comprehensive; very easy to follow. In a matter of minutes, I have a lil' contact form of my own. Whee!

Hope it helps. It certainly made my day. Well, my blogs anyway :)

3 Reasons I Stayed On With Blogging

How quickly two years have gone by. Little did I know then that a tiny hobby (which became an addiction) of mine would become such an overwhelming experience when I delved into the world of blogging.

Y'see, the thing with me is that, whenever I start a project, I sadly do not normally finish it. When I first started blogging, I thought the fad would end in 6 months, that I would become so mighty bored of it, I'd simply throw in the towel and say "What's next?" Yet, I stuck on for 2 years, where it became a place for me to simply rant my heart out, made lovely new friends, bought myself THREE domains, and the list simply goes on. So why did I stick to this project?

1. Great way to stay in touch with friends
When you have friends in different parts of the world, emailing all of them the same stories of what you did every weekend can become pretty overwhelming. What better than to just write it in one place, and have them come over and read it? Best of all, conversations are started over comments, and everyone get to know everyone, that kinda thing. This does NOT replace the personal touch you have with your buddies, of course.

2. Great way to meet new friends
Oh, I couldn't stress this enough. I'm so glad for all the blogging pals I made, ever since I went public with this blog. It took time to build a rapport with other bloggers out there, but it was worth the effort. Oh, and the *ahem* occasional ego boost is fantastic ;) (oh come on, don't tell me you didn't like it :p)

3. Great way to learn new things
Latest information in technology, current issues, sales, promotions, etc - you can get ALL of that in blogs. My magazine-buying habit has taken a serious dip ever since I discovered blogs. I only buy the odd magazine from time to time now; I can get everything else here.

So what are you waiting for? If you've not jumped onto the blogging bandwagon, come on in. There's plenty of room for all ;)

Test Your Blogging Addiction

Ever since I started blogging publicly (I used to keep this blog very privately, which only a few of my friends knew), it has become an all new experience altogether. It came to a point where the first thought in my head, whenever something interesting happened, was "Yay, I'm gonna blog about this".

Thus I thought I'd take this test, to see how addicted to blogging I am.

72%How Addicted to Blogging Are You?

Woah, 72% addicted to blogging. Golly. Oh well, I thought it would be worse :p

So what's your score?

Help, my Google Reader's A Tad Bonkers!

Google Reader
Okay people, I have a problem with Google Reader, and am wondering if y'all face the same thing too. I recently started using Google Reader as my RSS reader (yeah, I know, very slow in jumping onto the bandwagon, eh?), and have found it to be extremely useful in catching up with all my favourite blogs' latest entries.

But for some reason, which I have only just found out, not all my blogs which are updated show as UPDATED on my reader! There I was, thinking, okay, this blogger has not updated in a few days, no biggie, I'll just move on to another. But when I saja-saja click on his/her blog's feed link on the reader, tadah! The blog's actually been updated with many posts!! And when I do click on the Refresh button on the Google Reader, then only does it show as updated. What gives?!

Does anybody know the reason to this problem? Is this due to individual blog settings? Is there any way I can resolve this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers!

Blog Problems

I'm not sure if any of you guys have been having problems accessing my site lately. I've been having a bit of issues concerning my blog, namely copyright issues. Yep, I made the mistake of using copyrighted material in one particular post (it was a birthday greetings poem, which I have promptly removed). My domain was unfortunately suspended.

Ouch.

I've already contacted Godaddy.com on this, and the issue is now resolved. Let's just say that there was a lot of lawyer-jargon-talk going on. Godaddy.com support was very prompt, which was good.

Anyways, let it be a lesson to all of us as well. Be careful when using material which isn't originally yours (text, images, media files, etc) in your site, lest you want the Internet watchdogs coming down on you. I certainly learnt mine.

Back Up Your Blog

A blogging tip to share with you folks today - back up your blog.

If you've been blogging for quite some time now, imagine your horror and huge disappointment if, one day, some bugger were to hack into your account and delete your precious writing. You know how common that is nowadays. I don't know about you, but I'd definitely wanna kill someone if two years of my writing were to disappear in a flash, WITHOUT any means of retrieving my past work. You know when to back up your stuff in your PC. Don't forget about your blog too.

There are couple of ways to back up your work. The simplest method would be to save your archives, month by month, by saving the webpages into either HTML webpages, or, select everything, copy and paste into your word processor.

Or, if you're a lazy bugger like me, you might want to try something a little more automated. I've been using HTTrack Website Copier ever since I went past my 1-year mark of blogging. Just add your blog(s) as a project, enter the URL, and after a few clicks, let the software run on its own. It will save everything for you. Easy-peasy eh?

Blog Backup

HTTrack Website Copier is not so much of a blog backup tool, than it is an offline browser utility. You can download the contents of entire websites from the Internet to a local directory for offline viewing. Simply open a page of the mirrored website in your browser and browse the site link by link as if you were viewing it online.

Blog Backup 2

Do give it a go. It's free, which is great, as I'm a sucker for freebies (I can't say the same for the actual blog backup softwares available; I have yet to find one which is free). I'm paranoid, so I back up my blog once every two days. Once a week should do very nicely. Of course, remember to back up the ... err ... back up too :)

Happy 2nd Birthday, Blog

I was just checking my blog archives, and realised, that four days ago, was my blog's birthday! Yep, it marked the 2nd year of my filling this web journal with blurbs of my life. And my, how it has grown.

Happy birthday, blog
It's supposed to be TWO candles lah

How quickly time goes by. This place sure has undergone many changes, from the day I wrote my first post, till now. I remembered writing about my excitement (which turned into incredible homesickness) of being in Japan. I remembered crying over my keyboard when I wrote about my failed relationship (although I didn't fill it with the details, but bit by bit, I poured out my heartbreak).

I remembered writing about the vacations I took, to get over that tough period, and how broke I became after splurging on myself. I remembered going public for the very first time, with the worry that people aren't going to like reading my blog. Worry that my previous anonymity would finally be stripped away, and strangers would finally "see" me. I remembered feeling happy and excited when I made my first blogger-pal, and with that, having a steady stream of loyal readers and friends. I remembered the sense of appreciation and gladness that my hard work here did not go to waste.

I remembered being on my condescending high horse about how a blog should and should not look like, etc. I remembered being thoroughly humbled when my blog (and my personality) was viciously taken apart by utter strangers when I sent it in for a review. I remembered feeling betrayed by the people of whom I was such a loyal fan of. I remembered telling myself that I would never judge another blog again, and that every blog is unique. And they are.

I remembered falling in love with the man whom I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. I remembered writing about it here, with such anticipation and quick beating of my heart when I told the world that I love him. And they rejoiced with me when I told them we were getting married.

I remembered finally buying my own domain for the blog, getting my own dot com. I remembered my excitement when that dot com went public without any problems. I remembered all the help I received when I asked for it, in building my own place. Help given by people who do not know me, yet helped unconditionally.

This blog has seen me through the best and worst times of my life. It has become a big part of my life, not because it's only a journal, but with the journal, came the friends whom I made.

So happy (belated) birthday, oh blog. You were a project which turned into something more profound. I'm glad I did not give you up, even though there were times when I wanted to. May you be filled with many more words to come.

To my readers, thank you for sticking with me. I would not have lasted this long if not for you.

My Blog Review at Blogsreview.Net

Blogsreview.Net

I got reviewed by Pablo at Blogreviews.Net! My, my, I'm still red in the face from reading the review, such lovely words from senor Pabla (so glad you liked it). What made it sweet for me was that I certainly was NOT expecting it, nor did I put him up to it.

You can check it out here if you like. Do give him a shoutout if you'd like to have your blog reviewed by him. Thanks again, Pablo!

A New Beauty Blog

A bit of news to share - I've started a beauty blog of my own, Beautyholics Anonymous. I reckoned it's high time I have one too, and to leave the beauty stuff all at one place (this blog's starting to be a bit scattered; at least my male readers wouldn't have to read about the ladies stuff here, hehe :p). It's very new, so do be patient and give it some time while I fill that place with reviews and stuff.

Oh boy, another blog huh? Juggling three at a time ain't gonna be easy, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be another abandoned project.

Do check it out - Beautyholics Anonymous.

See y'all there, and have a great weekend!

I've Been Technorati-ed

Paris tagged me for the link-boosting thingy which is supposed to increase your ranking or something. Apparently it works really well, especially for money-making blogs. Since mine is not (honestly, I would LOVE to, but I'm too vain to fill my site with ads. Dammit), hey, like Paris said, it's all in the name of good karma, huh? ;)

Okay, here we go. LOTSA sites to fave *phew*.

***START COPYING HERE***

Here are the Rules:

1) Write a short introduction paragraph about what how you found the list and include a link to the blog that referred you to the list.

2) COPY the Rules and ENTIRE list below and post it to your blog. To avoid duplicate content and increase the amount of keywords your site can accessible for, go ahead and change the title of the blog. Just don’t change the links of the blog.

3) Take “My New Faves” and move them into the “The Original Faves” list.

4) Add 5 Blogs that you’ve just added to your Technorati Favorites to the “My New Faves” section. Remember to also add the “Fave Me” link next to your new blogs (i.e. http://technorati.com/faves?sub=addfavbtn&add=http://www.yourfavesdomain.com)

5) Add Everyone on this list to your Technorati Favorites List by clicking on “Fave the Site.” Those who want good kharma will fave you back. If not, you will for sure get the benefits of faves from the bloggers who continue this list after you.

My New Faves:

Blogsreview.Net - Fave the site

PabloPabla's Whatever - Fave the site
